Support the Haiti Artisan Crafts Group!

In April 2016, through the Mission Frère-Haiti Program, the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers Network was introduced to the Haiti Artisan Crafts group, which uses the creation and sale of art to support various programs supported by the Sisters of Jesus and Mary, which include educational, medical and housing initiatives to assist people in and around Jean-Rabel, Haiti. The use of art provides Haitian artists with an opportunity to practice and show their talents while also earning a wage to support their families.

Through the 2017 Mission Frère-Haiti immersion trip, the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America Province brought students from Iona Preparatory to serve with and learn about marginalized communities in Haiti. On this trip, the North America Province purchased a number of pieces of art which were displayed and sold at the Brother Kenneth Chapman Art Gallery at Iona College during the past few years.

Despite COVID-19 and political unrest in Haiti preventing further immersion trips involving Edmund Rice schools, the ERCB North America Province has continued to obtain art from this group, sell it, and send the proceeds back to support the work of the Sisters in Jean-Rabel. These art items are now available for purchase on the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America website as seen below:
